Experience the New with David Reid Homes Waitaki

It’s been another whirlwind of a year for North Otago husband and wife duo Aaron and Nikki Mackay of David Reid Homes Waitaki/ South Canterbury, but they don’t plan on slowing down, having added two more prestigious accolades to their already burgeoning collection.

David Reid Homes are synonymous with crafting unique and bespoke builds – pair that with their creative flair and expert knowledge and you’ve got an award-winning design and build company. So it comes as no surprise that David Reid Homes Waitaki/South Canterbury should scoop up two more Registered Master Builders Gold awards at the annual 2021 awards ceremony.

Speaking on how it feels to be recognised and acknowledged for their commitment and energy put into their work, husband and wife duo Aaron and Nikki Mackay say, ‘Winning the awards over the past two years is such a compliment to our team, showing they share our high expectations and standards.’ No stranger to being recognised for their commitment to quality builds, this is the second time David Reid Homes Waitaki/South Canterbury have entered the Registered Master Builders Awards, showing they consistently produce homes above industry standards. In 2019, they were awarded three golds regionally, with two of those homes being named in the top 100 in New Zealand and one of their entries being awarded the National Winner for a home in the up to $450,000 category.

2021 sees the company go from strength to strength, having been crowned Registered Master Builders – Mid and South Canterbury Gold Award and Category Winner for $600,000–$750,000 for their home in Ōhau, and Mid and South Canterbury Gold Award and Category Winner for their Show Home in Weston – both exquisitely designed and built homes.

With a building career spanning two decades, Aaron saw a great opportunity in the David Reid Homes franchise system, which saw the pair purchase their local area in 2016. From there it was all go with Nikki being the primary liaison with clients and subcontractors – there are even plans to extend their 12-man building team further with their five-year-old twins, one of whom ‘is desperate to be a builder like dad when he grows up’ says Nikki.

When speaking on the advantages of working with the other David Reid Homes franchises throughout New Zealand Nikki explains, ‘We have a great deal of business support and expertise, while all working together with a trusted brand. We listen to the wish lists of our clients and build specifically to their needs. The design process is led by our clients and guided by the knowledge and experience of our team. We run our own team of builders, meaning we can achieve a high standard of finish in a timely manner.’

And when asked what the process is like from when they bring a new client onboard to the final build, Nikki mentions that ‘the design process is the most important stage of the build. The home all begins with the plot of land and the individual needs of each client.

Each element of the home is shared with our team of builders and subcontractors, before finalising the plan, to ensure each aspect is achievable. We offer Master Builder Guarantee on every build, giving clients an added level of reassurance.’

Her advice to budding new home builders? ‘Do your research, know your budget and non-negotiables.’
