Set against the breathtaking backdrop of the Southern Alps, the Wānaka A&P Show returns 7-8 March. This iconic event, now in its 88th year, is a highlight on the calendar and a must-visit for locals and visitors alike.

The Wānaka Showgrounds come alive with an array of attractions. With over 44,000 attendees in 2024, the Show is a celebration of community, tradition, and excellence. Spanning two days, the event offers something for everyone, from families seeking a day of fun to industry professionals exploring the best of rural.

New for 2025, the Show introduces features designed to enhance the visitor experience.

The Local Larder offers a culinary delight featuring artisan food and beverage producers, with live cooking demonstrations by Peter Gordon, the ‘godfather’ of fusion cuisine, giving you the opportunity to experience the vibrant flavours of the region firsthand.

The Agri Exchange is a space dedicated to showcasing future-thinking, emerging technologies, and practical solutions to support and grow the agricultural sector. Families can enjoy newly added picnic zones, perfect for a relaxing day out.

The Plunket Playground, tailored for children under five, ensures even the youngest attendees have a space to play and explore. The Show continues to emphasise education and celebrate rural, highlighting New Zealand’s agricultural and community spirit.

Competitions are at the heart of the Wānaka A&P Show, showcasing the dedication and talent of participants. From equestrian events in the Main Ring to competitions in sheep, fleece, cattle, dog trials, and goats, these displays highlight the quality of New Zealand’s agricultural industry. The Home Industry Pavilion hosts over 1,500 entries, featuring everything from vegetables and preserves to crafts and baking, including the much-anticipated Business Bake-Off.

Crowd favourites like the Jack Russell Race, an event filled with energy and humour as spirited pups dash for glory, remain a highlight of the Show. The Rural Village provides an immersive experience into traditional rural skills, including wood chopping, shearing, and farriery demonstrations, allowing visitors to witness the craftsmanship and traditional skill up close. The Farmyard offers an interactive space where families can meet and learn about farm animals, from cuddly lambs to curious calves.
