DIY Project: Make a colourful crochet bag


This cute shoulder bag is easy enough for those just starting their crochet journey.

MATERIALS

4 Seasons Flinders Cotton 8ply 50g balls as per size x 2
A 3.50mm crochet hook or size needed to obtain tension
Scissors, yarn needle, tape measure
4 Seasons Flinders Cotton 8ply 50g balls

TENSION

3 patts and 5 rows to 10cm, using 3.50mm hook

INSTRUCTIONS

Base
Do not join, but work in continuous rounds, placing a marker at the beg of each round.

Using 3.50mm hook, make 2ch.

1st Round: Miss 1ch, 6dc in next ch.
2nd Round: 2dc in each st to end … 12dc.
3rd Round: * 1dc in next st, 2dc in next st, rep from * to end … 18dc.
4th Round: * 1dc in each of next 2 sts, 2dc in next st, rep from * to end … 24dc.
5th Round: * 1dc in each of next 3 sts, 2dc in next st, rep from * to end … 30dc.
Cont inc in this manner, working 1 extra dc between each inc until there are 102dc.
Next Round: Working into back loop only, 1dc in each st to end, sl st in next st.

Side
Side is not worked in continuous rounds, but joined at the end of each round.

Round 1: 3ch, 2tr in same st as sl st, * miss 2 sts, 1dc in next st, miss 2 sts, 5tr in next st, rep from * to last 5 sts, miss 2sts, 1dc in next st, miss 2 sts, 2tr in same st as sl st at beg, sl st in top of 3ch at beg.
Round 2: 1ch, 1dc in same st as sl st, * 5tr in top of dc, miss 2tr, 1dc in top of next tr, rep from * to last dc, 5tr in next dc, sl st in top of dc at beg.
Round 3: 3ch, 2tr in same st as sl st, * miss 2tr, 1dc in top of next tr, 5tr in next dc, rep from * to last 5tr, miss 2tr, dc in top of next tr, 2tr in same st as sl st at beg, sl st in top of 3ch at beg.
Rep rounds 2 and 3 until side measures approx. 15cm from beg, ending with round 1.
Next Round: 1ch, 1dc in each tr to end, sl st in ch at beg.
Next Round: 1ch, 1dc in each st to end, sl st in ch at beg. Rep last round once.
Next Round: 3ch, 1tr in each of next 2 sts, * 1ch, miss 2 sts, 1tr in each of next 3 sts, rep from * to last 2 sts, 1ch, sl st in 3ch at beg.
Next Round: 1ch, 1dc in each st to end, sl st in ch at beg.
Rep last round 3 times. Fasten off.

Tie
Using 3.50mm hook, make 130ch.

Row 1: Miss first ch, 1dc in each ch to end. Fasten off. Thread through spaces at top of bag. Make 2 small tassels and attach one to each end of tie.

Strap
Using 3.50mm hook, make a ch approx. 90cm long.

Row 1: Miss first ch, 1dc in each ch to end.
Row 2: 1ch, 1dc in each st to end.

Rep last row twice. Fold strap in half lengthwise and sew edges together, commencing 10cm from end, and ending 10cm from end. Sew in position to each side of bag at top edge, taking care not to twist the strap.

Make it up
Sew in ends.
