What does it take to create a garden of national significance in a remote place with an extreme climate and heavy clay soil? A body made of strong bones and a soul full of magic is a good start.

Jane Falconer has spent more than 30 years transforming Clachanburn Station cattle and sheep farm into a Garden of National Significance (the NZ Gardens trust’s rating).

Jane works from dawn-to-dusk most days maintaining the spectacular two-hectare property in the corner of Central Otago’s remotest Maniototo Plains. In the video above, Jane gives editor Kate Coughlan a tour of the property and a run down of what’s involved in maintaining the grounds.
