Video: Behind the scenes at Clachanburn Country Garden
Kate Coughlan meets Jane Falconer of Clachanburn Country Garden from This NZ Life on
What does it take to create a garden of national significance in a remote place with an extreme climate and heavy clay soil? A body made of strong bones and a soul full of magic is a good start.
Jane Falconer has spent more than 30 years transforming Clachanburn Station cattle and sheep farm into a Garden of National Significance (the NZ Gardens trust’s rating).
Jane works from dawn-to-dusk most days maintaining the spectacular two-hectare property in the corner of Central Otago’s remotest Maniototo Plains. In the video above, Jane gives editor Kate Coughlan a tour of the property and a run down of what’s involved in maintaining the grounds.
Clachanburn Country Garden comes to life in a beautiful 16-page story in the May/June 2016 #issue 67 of NZ Life & Leisure. This Garden of National Significance is gloriously different in every season, and Art Director Yolanta Woldendorp and photographer Jane Ussher visited the garden four times to capture the magic.
